Surigao Sur Summer Teaser

Summer is just around the corner and also just a miles away. Literally, if you are within Surigao you can have a budget-friendly trip in lots of beautiful places where you can spend your summer getaway. One of them are the Brittania Group of Islands, Tinuy-an Falls and the infamous Enchanted River. Me and my colleague didn't miss the chance to experience the beauty of these places.

The 3 tourist spots are basically located within the province of Surigao del Sur. It is a bit far but it worth the price to reach these destinations. The area lies within a karstic topography and because of this the landscapes were formed. I will not talk more about the geological aspect of the place.

Anyway, after gearing up with our important summer escapade stuffs, best swimming outfits and for myself my Maria (camera) we departed early than dawn and head our way first to Brittania in San Agustin. Mac Arthur's Place accommodated us including the boat ride going to the islands. I will not talk more about the place since there is nothing to talk about.

We went first to this naked island, technically it is partly naked. Brazing ourselves with the big waves and the possibility not to be hit by an enraged boat, we managed ourselves to set our first foot in the island. WOW, it is hot and WOW because the place is perfect.

We had our lunch at the next three-connected-forgot-the-name islands. Merchants are everywhere selling some 'pantawid gutom' food, sea urchins and sea weeds. My colleague went swimming while I went sleeping. The place is no good for snorkeling in my own opinion. There are plenty of starfishes though. After taking some good photos with our own subject we head ourselves back to the mainland.

Since all the rooms in the place were already fully booked day before our trip we luckily got an accommodation in the next town which is about 20-minute drive. The owner was so generous to accompanied us to Marihatag Tree Park. And guess what, we didn't regret we were booked at the said place. Peaceful - this is the important thing and a perk to go on surfing for a very affordable price.

I had my first surfing lessons although I'm scared at start. And I learned something about it. It does requires 1% balance, 1% focus and 98% will. And yes I am certainly going to do it again in my next destination - Siargao. :)

The place is very relaxing. You can set up tent beside the beach and savour the wind coming from the Pacific Ocean. We tried to tour around the town for dinner but stores closed early. Tree Park food, however, was not bad at all.

We enjoyed playing 7-up game while waiting for our food to be served.

Furthermore, the place too has small pen for 2 ostriches. I was not able to find out though about their genders.

Early the next day, we departed the place and had our free breakfast meal at Mac Arthur's Place. After having our eat-and-run meal, we directly head straight to Tinuy-an Falls in Bislig City with some few errands along the way. The road is rickety going to the falls from the national highway. The place will make you awe but not me since it was my second time. But it still remains awe for its magnificence.

Anyone should not miss the bamboo raft ride going to the waterfalls drop off point and experience the pain... and joy the water brings to your senses. The mist produced by the strong impact of the water falls at the base is so refreshing. My colleague even climb up to the head source and discover what's in there. Another small falls where they can shower themselves. The various activities make us almost emptying the big cooking pot filled with rice in our lunch!

Our last stop was the Enchanted River in Hinatuan. The place is indeed enchanting although we missed to witness the fish feeding because of a delayed schedule. We plan to have a children feeding as substitute which also did not succeed. The royal blue color of the river waters remind me of the covellite mineral which ultimately leads to remind me that I or we have work again the next day.

It is a Cinderella show for all of us where when the midnight strikes everything turns back to reality. But like Cinderella's prince charming who promised to search for her, we alike also made a promised to ourselves that will continue to search for our own happiness by exploring, discovering and travelling new places.

We leaved the place with alluring mantra, "tomorrow, tomorrow... I love you, tomorrow... You're only a day... away."
