A Peek at Buenavista Cave, Surigao City

Surigao is the city of islands adventure. Everyone should experience the thrill of having in these islands.

Surigao City where 2 seasonal climates occur – the wet and the very wet – composed of 54 barangays both from mainland and the adjacent islands. This includes the Barangay Buenavista. It can be seen from the city’s boulevard and can be reached for about 30 to 40 minutes by boat.

The trip is a work accomplishment celebration together with our Slovakian contractors. After almost 2 months of sweat, pain and blood, our struggles were paid off for a wonderful trip. Although the weather that time didn’t cooperated because of the storm brewing from the Pacific Ocean, we were still able to arrive safely into the said island.

It was a blessing-in-disguise trip I say since our original plan is the Basul Island. However, the boat operator insisted to divert the trip going to Buenavista instead because of a bad weather. So much for the weather update, let’s leave that to Kuya Kim’s another erroneous forecast.

Buenavista is a laid-back, peaceful, and relaxing place to stay with. The place too is ideal for snorkeling. Several aquatic species could be seen underwater including Dori and Nemo. The clear blue sea water is so inviting that it cannot resist anyone to swim into it.

One of the place’s attractions is the cave which is only a few steps away from the beach. Cave’s size is not that enormous but the eerie feeling to hear the water dripping from the stalactites and to see nothing because of the total darkness will surely make anyone to conquer their fear.

Food – yes speaking of food, it was mouth-watering. I mean because our manangs prepared it themselves. Anybody will definitely ruin their diet and figure if they could taste manang’s cook food. For me I enjoyed eating the ‘kinilaw’ along with boiled sweet potato.

Our foreigner friends brought this kind of strong alcoholic tea drink exclusively made in Slovakia. Drinking a bit of it makes it ‘excellent’ (favorite expression of one of our friends) for a cold weather we had experienced that time. Ofcourse, we were not able to finish the whole bottle therefore I kept it as my souvenir.

It was an unexpected trip nevertheless it turned out very well which is another experienced worth sharing. Sometimes we just need to overpower our fears and leave everything to God’s assuring hands. With this, we can assure that there will always a rainbow waiting after the storm.
